Notes for Duncan McLeod
Not the Highlander. One hopes. A lieutenant-general in the Bengal army.
-----------------
From the Dictionary of National Biography (entry for his son, Donald Friell McLeod):
Duncan McLeod, of the McLeods of Assynt, had joined the Bengal Engineers in 1794 and eventually became chief engineer for Bengal. Among his creations were the Murshidabad palace and the iron bridge over the Gumti River at Lucknow. Returning to England in 1841, he became a director of the Agra Bank. He died in London on 8 June 1856.
