McLeod, Sir Donald Friell (1810–1872), administrator in India, was born at Fort William, Calcutta, on 6 May 1810, the second son of Lieutenant-General Duncan McLeod (1780–1856) and his wife, Henrietta Caroline Lestock, née Friell (1781/2–1830), who was descended on her mother's side from a Huguenot family, the Boileaus of Castelnau.
