Notes for Edwin Adam (Mick) McPherson
Born in Hokitika, went to school in Reefton. Went off to the 2nd World War from there. After he came back from the war he worked (or part owned) a garage in Tapanui, Otago. His parents had moved to Dunedin by then. When he married his cousin some of the family weren’t too keen on this, so he re-enlisted in the army and moved up to Christchurch, where he was stationed at the Burnham camp. After Mavis died, the two younger children when to live with their grandmother, Mabel, for about three years, until Mick was discharged from the army and could get a job nearer home.
765Mick was a motor mechanic and fitter and turner.
Married again and had a daughter Kim.
Notes for Mavis Caroll (Spouse 1)
She married her cousin, as you can see. They had 3 girls and a boy. She died in her 30s of a malignant melanoma. When Mavis died, the grandmother (wife of Benjamin Binnie) looked after the two younger kids for about three years, but the two eldest, Ann and Rae stayed with their father. (This is what Rae herself told me.)
