Was a writer, but stopped practising after he took over an ironworks in Edinburgh. Married Maria Denoon Young, an authoress, in 1845 in Edinburgh. Their first 2 children, a son and daughter, were born in Stirling where he was also a writer. He had another 5 daughters born in Edinburgh where he moved to live. He acquired an ironworks and ceased to practise law. How he acquired the business I do not know but being a lawyer he may have been involved if there was a bankruptcy and managed to acquire it. Not unknown in these days.769
