A highly talented naval officer, the subject of the book “Beaufort of the Admiralty” by Alfred Friendly, a well-written, interesting, and (seemingly) honest book, that doesn’t try to hide any of Beaufort’s warts. Of which he had a few pearlers. The motto: don’t keep a diary.
