Notes for Adam Sprott (Spouse 1)
He had a son, Graham, who married Joyce who collected a lot of this information. Also had a daughter, Rona.
Mum says he had a wonderful sense of humour and a great sense of the ridiculous. He and his brother Robert were thrown out of a hall when someone was talking about the Irish Famine. The speaker would say at the end of every sentence “And the potato crop failed”. So Adam would call out, just before the end of every sentence “AND THE POTATO CROP FAILED”. So he and brother Robert were thrown out.
When he got angry he’d say he was so angry he was going to go to the lavatory and tear up all the paper. Oh dear. Before he used it, one hopes.
When he and brother Robert were out and about he’d say “Be ready to run, Bert”. Bert learned very quickly to get ready to run.
Adam worked at Hillside workshops and was maybe a pattern-maker too. He and his family lived in a grotty little villa in Broughton St, close to Cargill’s corner. He was an alcoholic. So even though he was very smart, he had real problems. His wife was the brother of an MP, and very bright also. Presumably hampered by an alcoholic husband.
In the picture of the whole family (when Queenie was a baby) Adam was the one with mumps. Brother Robert was the one who was grinning wickedly.
