Notes for Mary Clough
The website of the village of Sutton-in-Craven (http://www.sutton-in-craven.org.uk/historyofsteeton1886.asp) has extracts from the History of Steeton, by John Clough (written in 1886), which contains a bit of information about the Cloughs of Sutton. Not enough to trace a definite genealogy, mind you.

Neither are the Kildwick-in-Craven parish registers very useful, as there are just too many Cloughs, all with the same name. For example, one Maria Clough was baptised on 12 December, 1675, daughter of Michael and Mary Clough, of Kildwick. But another Maria Clough was baptised on 29 August, 1686, daughter of Robert and Elizabeth, of Sutton. Even the later one is dicey as the mother of our Stephen, as she would have been 35 in 1719. Not impossible, mind you. I can’t find any record of her marriage, either.
Notes for Peter (Spouse 1)
From the Chair of the Yorkshire genealogical society:

“There are many Barretts in the surviving Parish Registers of the Lang kirk of Craven, St Andrew's, Kildwick-in-Craven, which date back to 1575. A cursory look at our Parish Register section's published transcriptions of the registers reveals a Stephen Barret[t] baptised 14 May 1718 son of Peter and Mary of Sutton, Weaver. Sutton as its name suggests is based on a southern farmstead of the parish of Kildwick and one of its listed field names is Bent. [Smith, A.H. (Editor) The Place Names of the West Riding of Yorkshire part vi].”

In 2008, the village of Sutton-in-Craven published on its website a complete version of the book “The History of Sutton-in-Craven”, written by Nellie Stell in 1927 (http://www.sutton-in-craven.org.uk/stellch01.asp). This book mentions the Barretts a number of times, and is a very interesting read.

For example, in the poll tax of 1379 there were two Barets mentioned (Johannes Baret & ux, and Johannes Baret junior), and one Willelmus de Bent & ux (and wife). The author comments:

The name William de Bent is interesting. There is still a district of Sutton called 'The Bent', there is a Bent Farm and also Bent Lane. Evidently William held land or lived in this area.
The surname Baret occurs twice in the list. Later we know that the Baret family also held land near the Bent. The surname is still very common in the village.”

A later muster roll, in the reign of Henry VIII, lists a number of Barets again. “William Baret, hors & hern”, for instance.

During the Civil War a William Barrett of the Bent was a partisan of Charles I, there was a price on his head, and he had to flee to Ireland. Clearly he would have been a man of some importance in Sutton. Still later, in 1658, there were seven Barretts on the list of ratepayers in Sutton.

From the parish records of Kildwick-in-Craven (of which I have a copy) it is not possible to piece together a detailed genealogy. There are lots of Barretts all over the place, and they all seem to have the same name. Very confusing. About the best that can be said is that there were Barretts aplenty, and Barretts of the Bent aplenty, and had been for centuries.
