Notes for John Graham
Died unmarried. He is buried beneath the chapel of Lincoln’s Inn, having been a member of the Honourable Society.

In 2019, Simon Randall sent me an entry from Dodsley’s Annual Register (19 July 1791), giving details of how John Graham was killed in a duel with one of his close friends, Mr. Julius. John Graham was “an eminent special pleader” at Lincoln’s Inn, and he and his friend had a quarrel over something minor. It seems that they felt that they were required, by honour, to duel, otherwise presumably people would say rude things about them. So they duelled in Blackheath, and one friend killed the other. John Graham was shot in the groin, severing the femoral artery, and died the following day.

How pathetic.
