Notes for Simeon (i) Boileau
Occupation given as Merchant by [Lart, II, 13]. Said to have made a fortune, according to [BBB].
[BBB]: Is possibly the "Simeon Boileau" who was an ensign in a Militia Regt in Dublin, 1761.
The four main branches of the Boileau family descend from four of his sons: Solomon, John Peter, Thomas, and John Theophilus. At least according to BBB. Obviously a GIRL couldn’t lead to a main branch.
Notes for Magdalena Elizabeth (Spouse 1)
Lart is certainly wrong on one thing, as he has Magdalena Elizabeth, born in 1720, the daughter of Theophile de la Coeur, born circa 1721. I don’t think so. It’s most likely that Lart got confused (as Magdalena’s father seems also to have been called Samuel) and inserted a spurious generation.
BBC
29 gives her name as de Brize, thus suggesting a link to the famous French family of that name, but BBB
15 claims this is certainly incorrect, and that the two families are entirely unconnected. It’s not clear what information was used to get this conclusion. However, it seems clear that there is no direct evidence to connect these Desbrisay to the famous French family, except for a lot of wishful thinking and assumptions about unknown children. For example, “The Family DesBrisay”, a family history compiled by Reverend Henry de la Cour DesBrisay about 1884, is full of “Presuming therefore...”, “it is probable that ...”, “We may presume that ...” etc. Not very convincing.
