Notes for Trevelian Winston SNEYD
Captured during the war in Greece or Crete, destroying bridges behind enemy lines. I have his war medals. Prisoner for many years, but escaped from Germany and made it back to England. Escaped with Jack Turner, one of Turners and Growers, son of one of the directors.
Trev was reported missing in the Roll of Honour in the Evening Post of 25 June, 1941. On 8 Dec, 1941, he was reported as a prisoner of war.
In later years he and Pop (Alfred Harold) would go to the footy each week. They were close friends. Something came between them (most likely Pop’s wife) and communication ceased. All a bit sad, really. The story I’ve heard from Dad is that Trev and Renie went to visit Pop and Granny unexpectedly, and caught them burning a set of wicker furniture which had been a present from them. Granny was so mortified at being discovered that she never let Pop speak to his brother again. I could believe it of old Granny.
Lance-Corporal T. W. Sneyd, son of Mrs. M. E. Sneyd, Mclntyre Road. Mangere Bridge, who was reported missing after the campaign in Crete, is a prisoner of war at Stalag VII. B, Germany.
